In a music scene where being sheep helps you climb the charts, Kyar Pauk is a lone wolf- breaking down all preconceived notions of what music is. The writer, singer and producer has carved out a niche in Myanmar’s music industry with his punk/ funk/ hip-hop infused rock and mind-bending electronic creations. While rarely heard on the radio, Kyar Pauk has built up a cult-like following of fans at home and abroad who appreciate the quality of his work. The son of one of Myanmar’s famous classic rockers Ringo, Kyar Pauk had an insider view of the industry from an early age. He watched as his father’s creative ideas were pushed aside by producers. He saw how radio executives feared playing anything out of the mainstream. Seeing talent stifled like this sparked a fire in Kyar Pauk’s subconscious, a growing anger toward the system and a deep distrust of the people in charge. He turned to the music world beyond Myanmar’s borders, buying bootleg cassette tapes from international artists. With these tapes Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica , The Faint and Pink Floyd came smashing through his headphones. He released 10 albums with Big Bag and after almost 20 years of producing nationwide hits for the band and other top 10 artists in Myanmar, Kyar Pauk finally decided to release his very first solo project under his own name.
