Miguel Angel Hernando, known to fans as Lichis, set to organizing a new band following the breakup of Maleza, his previous group. Seeking to form a group with a truly unique sound, a band that mixed styles and broke all previous rules, Lichis named his new band La Cabra Mecánica (The Mechanical Goat). They began performing publicly in 1993 and quickly gained the attention of local record labels. The band's debut self-titled disc met with both critical acclaim and promising sales. Named by many critics the Revelación del Año and selling better than 25,000 units distinguished Lichis and his group as artists to watch. Thanks to La Cabra Mecánica's successful debut, their record label gave them a creative carte blanche for the follow-up project. The freedom didn't pay off -- their sophomore release, Cabron, sold fewer than 3,000 units, and the album's failure caused Lichis to consider abandoning the project entirely. The group's third record, made in collaboration with veteran producer Alejo Stivel, was released in 2001. Vestidos de Domingo was La Cabra's first to land on national charts in Spain, setting the band back on a promising path. They set out on the road for a national tour following the disc's successful release. Ni Jaulas, Ni Peceras (2003) continued in this vein, generating a number of popular radio singles such as "No Me Llames Iluso." For the band's 2005 release, Hotel Lichis, Hernando went through a process of personal reinvention, embarking on a journey of physical and mental renewal. After taking time to learn all the necessary musical instruments, Lichis played almost everything on the disc, which was co-produced by Dani Alcocer. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez, Rovi
