    The typical picture of an artist usually involves the ‘one true passion' narrative, in which a person's identity and art are inextricably linked. Certainly, when Delhi based musician Dot. gained her initial following through YouTube videos shot on a Motorola, it looked to be one of those internet age fairytales where the little girl gets her big dream. But that is not the case with Dot., who maintains that her music would be empty without her curiosity for other things. Citing her ongoing academic life as well as her brief stint as a data administrator, she says "Living your life in the arts crowd can make you believe that there are only two kinds of people: the chaotic creatives and the organised nine-to-fives. That divide makes no sense. I've found some of the most beautiful moments of poetry doing 'ordinary' things, and you should see my colour-coded database for song ideas." Poetry of the ordinary is a recurring theme in Dot's music, with her debut album 'Khamotion' (a play on the words 'khamoshi' and 'motion') centered around the busy stillness of trains, taxis and tuk tuks.
