Easter Sunday in Birmingham Home seemed so far away I set out to look for Jesus Like so many folks do on this day My soul was in need of healing It was a little beat from the road Then I experienced resurrection When I met Mitchell Jones Mitchell said he was a Fireman He'd been fightin' fires his whole life But the demons burned deep inside him Killing him slowly from the inside Rise up Mitchell Jones You're a hero today Death ain't got a grip on you Flowers on the cross But the meaning has been lost Will they ever know the truth Lord it makes me wonder, Will they ever know the truth? I told Mitchell not to be afraid To pay tribute to the Prince of Peace But the homage wasn't being paid The way we thought it should be So we broke bread on the sidewalk Outside the Highlands Temple of Greed And as Mitchell bid me farewell I realized He had risen indeed If Jesus hadn't risen on the 3rd day He'd be rollin' over in his grave Because that preacher man wouldn't talk to him On that Easter Sunday
