A specialist in dance-pop and EDM, Martine Johnson is a bilingual Canadian singer and songwriter who records as Mia Martina. Based in Toronto, she grew up in Saint-Ignace, New Brunswick and later attended Carleton University in Ottawa. While there, she got an internship at CP Records, where she moved from office work to singing backup for artists on the label. She made her solo recording debut in 2010 with the song "Stereo Love," a reworking of the hit dance tune by Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina from the previous year. Her version was nominated for a Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year in 2011. That same year, Martina's debut album, Devotion, was released by EMI. The title track was nominated for a Juno in the same category in 2012. In the meantime, she landed on the Canadian Hot 100 and digital songs chart with "Latin Moon" and "Burning." In 2013, she had yet another hit with "Heartbreaker," which appeared on the Canadian charts as well as Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart. It earned her a third Juno nomination for Dance Recording of the Year. The song was included on her second LP, 2014's Mia Martina, which also included the charting singles "La La," "HFH (Heart Really Hurts)," and "Beast," a Top 40 hit in Canada. Martina re-emerged in 2017 with the single "Sooner or Later" featuring rapper Kent Jones. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
