Mainwaring (Bass) and James Mattock (Drums & Vocals) and was formed in 2018, having met through previous projects and shared musical influences (The Cure, Alkaline Trio, Placebo, Bright Eyes, Interpol, etc.). They immediately started writing songs together before self-releasing their self-titled debut EP on April 12th, 2019. Following the release, the band spent the rest of 2019 touring their native UK with artists such as Tiger Army, Grave Pleasures & Holding Absence and looked forward to more extensive touring in 2020. Any touring plans were quickly shelved though, as the world was forced into lockdown following the outbreak of coronavirus. So, The Nightmares spent this period pouring their collective black hearts into the writing of their debut record. In April of 2021, the band signed to Venn Records in the UK/Europe and Equal Vision Records in the US/ROW and started to put plans into place for the release of their first full length album.
