Blood on the Saddle blazed a trail out of the mid-80s L.A. punk scene with an assortment of hard-edged bluegrass riffs courtesy of Greg Davis, soaring country-influenced vocals and harmonies of Annette Zilinskas, along with a dynamic turbo-charged rhythm section of bassist Ron Botelho and drummer Hermann Senac. New Musical Express described their music as “western thrash … a stampede over the valley of death.” “Cowpunk” was the oft-trendy description, but no one was really like this band - before or since. In early 1983 they began rehearsing in Hollywood with the line-up of Ron Botelho on upright bass, Greg Davis on guitar and vocals and Hermann Senac on drums. They began gigging in Los Angeles as a trio, but added Annette Zilinskas on vocals and guitar in the summer of 1983, right after she had left the Bangles. In the fall, the band recorded their self-titled debut album Blood On The Saddle, which was released in the spring of 1984 on the Minutemen's New Alliance label. The group then began touring all over North America and Canada. In 1985 they recorded their second album Poison Love and toured North America and Canada again, as well as Europe in 1986. In 1987, the original line-up recorded their 3rd album Fresh Blood, but broke up before the label SST released it that fall. Greg Davis continued the band with various other musicians, but they didn't release again under their moniker until 1993 with album number four called More Blood.
