Tariq Oluokun (born May 1, 2001), known professionally as TAR1Q (TAH-reek) is a Nigerian singer-songwriter signed to Nutrybe, a development academy under Chocolate City Music . Blessed with a velvety voice and tone, he stands out for his heartfelt storytelling, stage presence and his chameleon-like ability to blend distinct genres. His musical style, which he terms ‘Neo-Afro’, synthesizes contemporary Afrobeats, Pop, Hip-Hop and classic R&B. In the same way, he cites Sade, Kwam1, Wande Coal, Ed Sheeran, J. Cole and Frank Ocean as core influences on his sound and overall stagecraft. Born in Benin city, twenty-one years ago, he discovered his love for music at the age of 12. In 2018, he decided to give music as a career a chance and began experimenting with his sound. First as a trap-rapper, enjoying putting lyrics together, then he grew to enjoy melody and chants, which he has infused to create a unique and emotive sound. After a year in the Academy recording music, Tar1Q has graduated with a total catalog of 60 unreleased songs, and a very clear understanding of his sound and his brand. In his new EP, Son Of The Moon, we learn about love, loss, self-esteem and mental health,and the value of it. As an introvert, “Son Of The Moon” captures his thoughts perfectly.
