Aks & Lakshmi are a composer and vocalist duo who pioneered Electronic Bhakti Music. They sing the poems of great Indian poet-saints such as Adi Shankaracharya, Kabir, and Mirabai espousing messages of peace, love and pluralism. Their pan-Indian spiritual sound traverses the worlds of Bollywood, bhajan, Indian classical and EDM. Audiences describe their music as healing, meditative and transforming. Aks is a composer, producer and vocalist with credits spanning albums, film & TV, and video games. Trained by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, he creates music that blends electronic orchestration with soulful melody. He has composed music for over 200 original songs and is adjunct faculty in UCLA’s Film Scoring program. Lakshmi is a professional vocalist and independent scholar who brings music and bhakti scholarship onto one platform. She holds an M.A. in Religious Studies from Stanford University and has consulted for Syracuse University, Stanford University, Sony Music and VICE Media. Lakshmi is a frequent contributor to Hinduism Today, for which she writes about the great Indian poet-saints. In 2013, their music and media company Eclipse Nirvana released The Bhakti Movement, a project that modernized traditional songs and was distributed worldwide by Sony Music. Based in Los Angeles, California, Aks & Lakshmi perform across North America and beyond.
