Mal is the solo project of Los Angeles based artist Mallory Hauser. In 2021, Mal released their debut project "In Free Fall” – a cinematic, atmospheric seven-song EP about youth and growing pains accompanied by a VR gallery of original artwork. With their collection “Continuous Short Feature Film,” they stay the same course of their debut release; writing and recording the music, conceptualizing and directing the videos, and establishing themselves as a well-rounded artist with an aptitude for each sonic and visual facet of their creations. While the arrangements and lyrics to “In Free Fall” were already solidified by the time Mal pressed record, their songwriting approach with “Continuous Short Feature Film” was less traditional. Each song is built on an improvised foundation, like scores to their own vivid imaginings. Only after these foundations were built did Mal then find the right words to translate the scenes playing out in their head into words. The result — a sonic masterpiece unraveled by color, texture, and time. With the help of DP Seannie Bryan (Skullcrusher, DAISY WORLD, Walk the Moon) and influences ranging from visual artists like David Lynch and Mark Rothko to skate films like Jim Greco's “Jobs?
