For more than three decades, the Vidal brothers have performed together as the Kingsville, Texas based Mexican Regional band, Grupo Vidal. At the heart has always been brothers Javier, Rudy, Ronnie, and Daniel. Grupo Vidal began with a dream and passion that Rudy always had for music. The group performed and honed their skills around South Texas for several years. After developing a strong regional following, The Vidal Brothers were chosen to perform in the 1997 biopic “SELENA”. “We sang “Blue Moon” and “We Belong Together,” Vidal said. “It wasn’t our faces (in the movie), but it’s our voices”. Vidal released their debut album in 1996, featuring a mix of a cappella tunes along with original songs. It also marked their transition to a more conjunto-style of music. They also changed their name to Los Vidal. In 2015, Vidal signed a record deal with indie powerhouse Freddie Records. In September 2019, the band received a Latin Grammy nod in the Best Tejano Album category for their 2018 album “Nunca Te Rindas.” The nomination was bittersweet as brother Rudy had passed away in 2012 from complications following kidney transplant surgery. “We never thought about (The Latin Grammys), but Rudy did. He used to say we’d get there someday”. At the end of the day, it’s still about the music and being able to perform with their friends and family. “It’s the sweetest gig ever,” Javier said. “Being out there as brothers and best friends. It’s the best job we could ever have”.
