Ulthima is a Mexican-Finnish melodic death metal band based in Helsinki, Finland. The roots of Ulthima start in Monterrey Mexico, where the band’s songwriter guitarist Ricardo Escobar and bassist Antonio Valdés started making music around 2006. Having been inspired by bands like Children of Bodom and Kalmah, they dreamt of moving to Finland, where many of the great metal bands of the 2000's originated from. They started what would later become Ulthima around 2010. After a while of struggling to make progress with the band, Ricardo moved to Sweden in 2012. After living in Sweden for a brief period Ricardo moved to France where Antonio followed him in 2013. They tried to get the band started there as well but they failed to find the right people to establish a stable lineup. In 2016 they finally decided to move to Finland. In Finland Ulthima still experienced multiple changes to the lineup but eventually discovered second guitarist Jon Welti, keyboard player Niko Sutinen and drummer Ville Nummisalo. Final addition to Ulthima’s lineup was vocalist Tuomas Antila who joined the band in 2018. Since then the band set to start really working for the debut album which was recorded during 2020. Ulthima’s music draws inspiration from power and symphonic metal, which can be heard from the themes of the lyrics as well as the less melancholic melodies than what is typical for the genre of melodic death metal.
