My journey into children’s music began many years ago after I had a dream that there was a cow in my grandmother’s kitchen. I wrote “The Cow’s In The Kitchen At Grandma’s House” the next day and wrote a few other “cow” songs in the following months. It wasn’t until a couple of years later that I realized there might be a market for a CD entirely about cows. My friend Nancy had just shown me around her home state of Vermont. We’d been through the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream factory and visited a number of gift shops that had cow themed items for sale. After that trip I decided to make a CD all about cows and ice cream. It took about two years to write all the songs and record them. My friend Dave Hoffner produced the CD. When I first told him what I wanted to do he agreed to produce the CD but he said, “We’re going to make it so adults can enjoy it too.” At that time there were virtually no children’s CDs available that were produced well enough that adults could enjoy them along with their children. Parents had to basically endure their children’s music. Dave’s dedication to creating a great sounding CD was a big part of the success of that CD and the ones that followed. When “Cow Tunes for Kids” was finished I loaded my van and drove from Nashville to Vermont to try to sell it around the state. It was received quite well. In the years that followed I made Moose Tunes for Kids and Bear Tunes and Sea Tunes and many other fun CDs.
