It is one of the first times, possibly even the first time in my life That I understood, like truly understood, on my own That some writing is simply better than other writing I could adjudicate which works I liked more than others and why But this one was on my own, it just got me The poem goes on from that opening line To describe scenes visually represented in poetic detail Praising each for being timeless, enduring, and emotive After you read or hear the poem read loud You feel like you can picture this artifact in your head He gives you such a vivid explanation of the images And the emotive response to them That it's perhaps even better than having seen yourself When somebody rhetorically describes a work of purely visual art In language, it's called Ekphrasis
