When I was young and in my prime, I thought I'd like to roam Like many's a fine young Irishman I left my native home I crossed the broad Atlantic onto the Yankee shore And I left my heart in Galway, in the town of Carraroe When I came to Philadelphia and I found my new abode My friends they came to meet me, and they treated me like gold The Stars and Stripes were all my pride, but still the tears did flow For I missed the girl I left behind in the town of Carraroe My native town is of a high renown, and it's beauty to be seen The buildings are all great and tall and the trees are evergreen The little birds sing dearly there, and the cuckoo never owns For she's quite at home and happy in the town of Carraroe ♪ There's a photo for the strangers there all in the summertime And during their long holidays with us, they do reside We greet the weary wanderer to share our happy homes For we're proud and independent in the town of Carraroe And we played our Gaelic football games on Sunday afternoons We have of ceili dances at the rising of the moon There's loads of hospitality no matter where you roam For we're quite at home and happy in the town of Carraroe For we're quite at home and happy in the town of Carraroe
