This is the story of the ant the crumb
One day an ant had a great stroke of luck.
He found a huge crumb that even had a dab of sweet jelly on it.
– Man, wait till everyone back in the anthill sees what I've found!
But when he began to drag that crumb towards that anthill,
He realized what a job he had ahead of him!
His antennae shook, his legs wobbled, his jaws ached with pain
As he slowly pulled that crumb back to the anthill.
– Man, this is too much! – he moaned.
– I can't do this alone! Man, I can't do this!
So the ant just sat there and cried,
And whined and moaned, and cried, and cried.
Soon brother Bee came buzzing along.
He was buzzing up and down all over the place,
– Hey, brother Bee!
Can you help me carry this crumb back to my anthill?
– Ain't got time, – said brother Bee.
– I gotta get this pollen back to my hive.
And brother Bee just flew off.
And poor ant just stood there,
And cried and whined, and cried, and moaned
Soon brother Beetle shows up.
Now, brother Beetle is known for being a practical joker.
But Ant asked for his help anyway.
And brother Beetle said
– Sure! No problem.
So brother Beetle took a look at that crumb,
And he went around on the other side
And looked at the other side of the crumb.
And then he kept looking at the crumb
From all the different sides and all different angles.
And brother Beetle says
– I can help you solve your problem.
So brother Beetle takes a bite out of that crumb and says
– See? I just made it lighter for you!
And walks off laughing.
– Hahaha!
Poor ant! He just stood there, and he was angry, and he was screaming
And hollering and jumping and
Crying and whining and crying and whining
Now Anansi, the spider, stood watching the whole thing from his web
In the tree up above and just had enough of ant's whining and crying
And talking about "I can't do this" and "I can't do that"
So he went down a web where the ant was and said
– Ant! I'm gonna solve your problem.
– Tell you what I'm gonna do.
– I'm gonna take my web, wrap up this crumb,
And then I'm gonna take it home to my family.
And then Anansi slowly walks toward that crumb.
– No-no-no, that's my crumb! – cried Ant.
– No-no, you can't take that, that's not right!
Then Ant quickly grabbed that crumb
And he pushed, and pulled, and shoved, and rolled and carry
And before he knew it,
He stood at the top of that hill, next to that crumb!
Anansi smiled with his eyes and said
– See? You can do a lot more than you think.
And that's the story of the ant and the crumb.
