I saw the cross of Jesus
When burdened with my sin.
I sought the cross of Jesus
To give me peace within.
I brought my soul to Jesus
He cleansed it with His blood.
And in the cross of Jesus,
I found my peace with God.
I clasp the cross in every trying hour:
My certain Refuge, my unfailing Tower.
In every fear, a conqueror I am.
I'm safe in living, or in death,
Through Christ the Risen Lamb.
I take the cross, I clasp the cross of Jesus.
Upon the cross of Jesus,
My eye at times can see
A very dying form of One
Who suffered there for me.
And from my smitten heart, with tears,
To wonders I confess--
The wonders of His glorious love
And my unworthiness.
I love the cross of Jesus,
It tells me what I am:
A broken guilty creature,
Saved only through the blood of the Lamb.
No righteousness, no merit,
No beauty can I plead.
Yet in the cross of glory,
My sins are gone!
From guilt I have been freed!
I clasp the cross in every trying hour:
My certain Refuge, my unfailing Tower.
In every fear, a conqueror I am.
I'm safe in living, or in death,
Through Christ the Risen Lamb.
I take the cross, I clasp the cross of Jesus.
I clasp the cross in every trying hour:
My certain Refuge, my unfailing Tower.
In every fear, a conqueror I am.
I'm safe in living, or in death,
Through Christ the Risen Lamb.
I take the cross, I clasp the cross of Jesus.
I clasp the cross!
