The billboards in the stores aren't what I'm looking for But sometimes they're all I see The persons on the radio tell me what I already know I wish that they would leave me be Well anorexic teenage girls and soccer moms in a real girl's world May never fit into a size three But they are told what beauty is by men who sit in offices Who tell them what a woman should be The preacher on your TV set Whose face is red and full of sweat Is praying for us to all be millionaires He can heal the sick and blind they say Even heal a man from being gay And for a small fee he'll take away all your cares A soldier in a foreign land Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan Will soon arrive home to his wife and kids We've been at war for far too long The Middle East and then Vietnam Let's bring him home so he can finally live We're all a bit older now We need to ask all the why's and how's So we can truly be a land that?? To live in debt or be born dead So our children can know what freedom means
