Well, the day the circus came to town Half the town rejoiced The other half was sick in bed They're sure they'd lost their voice Atop a great white elephant Rode a monkey on a leash And they lead the grand parade When the monkey tried to speak And trumpets blared and sparklers flared And thunder sthe ground As the elephant split open wide And out poured all the clowns Well, the circus full of circus clowns All summer, salts, and flesh With pie upon their faces and Riddles upon their lips And the children all got peanuts And the grownups all got checks And everyone agreed it was the greatest circus hit And the tigers cracked their whips until The trainers jumped through hoops And the clowns declared the cage unfair And they turned the tigers loose Well, one clown juggled fire While he swung from the trapeze But he smacked and hit the tent poles with The greatest of dis-ease And the fire took the tent poles And the tent came crashing down And the firetruck came quickly but And in the back was full of clowns They filled the hose with righteous prose And gasoline and God "Relax, we'll fight the fire back with human -------(?)" Well, the spectatle was gripping The circus show, indeed That no one took and noticed as The clowns took to the streets On tricycles with wagons And with toiletpaper spools They teepeed all the neighbor's homes And pissed in all the pools "Oh, look, oh, look, it's festive now!" The three-ringed martin called Of folks looked up to see the fuss They watched with shock and awe Well, the crowd had gotten weary It's time the clowns should leave But the clowns all played a desperate game Of hide without the seek They're easily dicovered In the shadows where they hid 'Cause every clown was pointing out The clown right next to him So let's load them up in circus trucks And drive them out of town It's not that they are bad, per say, It's just that clowns are clowns, are clowns, are clowns
