There's an owd chap lives down our street
In a cosy cottage greenhouse

One day when I were sat wi' him
There came a loud rat tat
There came a loud rat tat on Jack's front door
Well he hurried o'er to open it, an' there to his surprise
A hungry tattered begger stood outside
He asked Jack for a crust of bread

An' he went an' hung his hat up

These fifty years away, now back again,
