Cody Matthew Johnson - Paralysis şarkı sözleri

Sanatçı: Cody Matthew Johnson

albüm: Vanitas: For Spoken Word & Orchestra

Before I even slip out of bed
I flip through page after page after page of outrage on social media feeds
Feeding my need to see a seed of bitterness bloom into a forest of fear
It's this looming canopy of anguish
Photosynthesizing off the minds of faceless racists and baseless hatred
The media paints this abysmal prison on screens creating a schism
A ravine if you will
Between two moral sides of the same national coin.
And I think rationally to myself, still pinned to my mattress by my bedspread
That the internet, Nazis, snowflakes, alt-right, pro-life
PC police, and, hell, even your Aunt Bernice
With a bachelor's in criminal justice suggesting minimal adjustments
To atone for unjust corruptions are taking our happiness away
That these, and more, are sapping the will to live from our veins
When did it come to this? When did we transition from relative bliss to raised fists?
When did the news get less "face painting and car wash"
And more "brace for nuclear holocaust"?
Well, never
See, as our screens get bigger, our world is getting smaller
And the universe is hauling us by the collar
Forcing us to gawk at the squalor that all our deeds have wrought
The sad historical truth is that Rodney Kings have always been beaten in the streets
And Ghandis have always been gunned down in front of stunned crowds
Way back in the day we had witchcraft and fiery stakes
Contrasted to today's class struggle and tax breaks
Breaking down economic constitution
The issue here is fear and misunderstanding
Since caves, we've been afraid of what we don't connect with
So our directive has been directly in check with protecting our necks
We're animals, complete with gnashing teeth, thumbs, bloodlust, and iPads
It just took cameras in our pockets to realize we were that bad
